Lacroix's models
have always had an air of grandeur, his dresses have been characterised
by extravagance and lavishness. He is known for his 18th century-inspired
pouf dress and other Fin de siècle (French for 'end of century')
robes. Neo-romantic Christian Lacroix founded his couture house in 1987.
'De bonne famille' (French for 'coming from a good family'), Lacroix has
studied at the Sorbonne and the Ecole du Louvre. Christian Lacroix has
learnt his profession at a number of houses: Hermès in 1978, working
with the Couturier at the Imperial Court in Japan (1980) and later (in
1981) he was appointed artistic director at Jean Patou where he spends
5 years. For his creations Lacroix lets himself be inspired by the traditions
of Provence where he grew up, his passion for the England of Oscar Wilde,
the Beatles, Barcelona and Venice.
The house of Christian Lacroix
belongs to the Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy Group (LVMH), which is presently
the largest luxury company world-wide. Christian Lacroix's fashion house
in Paris is situated in an 18th century palace on No. 73 rue du Faubourg
Saint-Honoré. Lacroix's wedding dresses are not only magnificent

wide on a tailor's dummy standing upright in a huge box. Also his evening
dresses are exquisite and designed for women who enjoy making a grand entrance.
