Hotel Cipriani, Venice, Italy
Location:
The Cipriani Hotel is located just opposite the skyline of Venice on the
island Giudecca. The Cipriani operates a free boat service to and from
its private landing stage at Piazzetta San Marco, which is between the
waterfront and St Mark's Square, for 24 hours a day. If the boat is not
waiting next to the traditional canal gondolas there is a telephone to
call it, even when the hotel is closed in the off-season. There is a charming
service helping you to enter the beautiful wooden boat and the crossing
of the lagoon is an enjoyable ride with a great view of the famous main
waterfront of Venice. Apart from that, the Hotel Cipriani is delighted
to arrange direct private transfers to or from Marco Polo Airport, which
takes about half an hour, and the main railway station, which takes about
a quarter of an hour. Alternatively, water taxis or the Vaporetto public
boat services operate from the airport or train station to the terminal
at St Mark's Square beside the Cipriani's private landing stage. Last but
not least, the Cipriani's docking facilities can accommodate boats of up
to 70 feet (21 meters) in length with a maximum draft of 10 feet (3 meters)
History:
In the 18th century, the island Giudecca was Venice’s garden of delights.
Alongside noble palazzos there were modest casinis for shorter stays. Today
the Giudecca is much changed, but some of the gardens which were the favourite
summer retreats of the Venetian noble families still exist. The Hotel Cipriani
opened its doors in 1958 on the island of Giudecca. Giuseppe Cipriani,
founder of the famous Harry's Bar in Venice, where the Bellini drink was
invented, built this hotel within easy reach of St. Mark's Square and yet
far enough away to guarantee peace and privacy to its guests. Thanks to
the unique location and the perfect service, the Cipriani hotel enjoyed
instant acclaim by the rich and famous, including Duke and Duchess of York
and Hubert de Givenchy. In 1968, some adjoining land was purchased and
a magnificent Olympic size swimming pool was built, which is still the
only one in Venice today. Hit by the recession in the early 1970s, the
Hotel Cipriani was sold to Sea Containers in 1976, whose president and
owner, Mr. James B. Sherwood, was a regular visitor. In order to make the
hotel more accessible to his clients in style, Mr. Sherwood and his wife
bought antique trains and started to operate the Orient-Express
Trains from London to Venice – probably the most stylish way to travel
to the Hotel Cipriani, even today.
Rooms
and Suites: The Cipriani Hotel boasts of 46 rooms and 58 suites, with
lagoon or garden view which is assigned at arrival. Standard Rooms are

magical space created out of light, transparent crystal and pure air. The
elegant dining area allows guests to host small dinner parties served by
a personal butler available 24 hours a day. The Palladio Suite has three
bathrooms, each crafted from Carrara and Verona marble with views out over
the lagoon.

and Bars: Cipriani-style food is simple and freshly prepared: pasta
and pastries are made in the hotel daily, including the breakfast croissants.

antique water fountain bordering the lagoon. The Fortuny Terrace is open
for dinner, with seating inside during inclement weather. Children under
eight are welcome from 7.30 to 8.30 pm with a special dedicated menu (while
at the Cip's Club they are accepted even later) and gentlemen are expected

dinner a memorable affair on the terrace as well as in the restaurant.

precious fabrics and amber-coloured mirrors and has a magnificent views
of the lagoon. The informal “Poolside Restaurant” offering hors d'oeuvres
from the buffet is open for lunch. “Cip's Club Restaurant” is located on
the Fondamenta delle Zitelle with the most beautiful prospect across the
lagoon to St Mark's Square. Cip's Club Restaurant service and food is refined
but casual, and very Venetian. The Restaurant is within easy reach of Cipriani’s
private pier in the Piazza San Marco, just opposite the Doge’s Palace.
“Il Gabbiano” is the hotel's main bar and is located near the Fortuny Restaurant,
and is perfect for cocktails before dinner or after-dinner drinks, such
as the famous Bellini, Tiziano, Roger or Mimosa.
