Maybach 57 and Maybach 62

If
you are looking to buy an ultra luxury sedan such as the new Rolls-Royce
Phantom or the Bentley Arnage T, there is
a third model which might be of interest to you. Since autumn 2002, the
Maybach 57 or its longer version, the Maybach 62 (as shown in the three
pictures), are on the market. Whereas the Maybach 62 (6.17 metres in length)
is more the chauffeur driven version, with first-class plane seats to relax
in the back, the Maybach 57 (measuring 5.73 metres) is for self drivers.
The legendary insignia symbolising the ultimate in exclusive automotive
engineering, consisting of two intersecting Ms in a spherical triangle,
graces the new luxury automotive brand. The only difference is that where
"MM" once stood for "Maybach Motorenbau", it now stands for "Maybach Manufaktur".
In
the past, the flagship model was the Maybach "Zeppelin", with its breathtaking
V12 engine. With a length of approximately 5.5 metres, this was the largest
German passenger car of its era. The new luxury Saloon's twelve-cylinder
engine develops a maximum output of 405 kW/550 hp, with torque peaking
at 900 Newton metres (664lb ft). These power and torque figures are unmatched
by any other series-production passenger car engine in the world, beating
the Bentley Arnage T by 25 Newton metres – "Vive la competition", as the
French would say. This impressive output and pulling power ensures that
the new Maybach models handle any driving situation with the ease and authority
you would expect from the brand. The Maybach 57 coves the sprint from 0
to 100 km/h in just 5.4 seconds.
In
years gone by, Maybach's exclusive clientele went to specialist coachbuilders
to have their cars "bodied". After an pause of more than sixty years when
there were no Maybachs built, the new luxury saloon is 100 per cent factory-built
at the Sindelfingen plant in Southern Germany with an annual capacity of
a bit more than 1,000 Maybachs only. This highly exclusive automobile is
built right next door to where the Mercedes Benz S-Class is produced. Highly
trained employees in coach-building and assembly processes, based on a
high level of hand-craftsmanship, ensure that even the most unconventional
wishes can be catered for. Maybach customers are updated regularly during
the time their Maybach is being built. Customers have the option to actually
witness their Maybach being built and can contribute their own input as
desired. The Maybach 57 is priced at 310,000 US Dollars and the Maybach
62 at 360,000 US Dollars. However, the 2003 production of nearly 1,000
cars has already been sold out and orders for 2004 are being taken now.
